Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This year, Andy and I spent Christmas in Salt Lake with his family.  I didn't want to haul a baby halfway across the United States and since this is the last year we'll be living in Utah (and probably one of the last times we'll spend Christmas in Utah) we decided to stick close to home.  It's a good thing we did!

In the last 3 weeks we had to get a new transmission put into our car, went to the dentist twice (once for cleanings and once for Andy and I to each get a cavity filled), and went to the optometrist.  In addition to my cousin Sean getting married, 3 family parties, and Christmas day.  Needless to say, it's been a busy couple of weeks.  Despite all of this, Andy and I are feeling incredibly blessed.  The transmission we got is actually a used one which was $1,000 cheaper than getting a brand new one put in.  Our dentist is the one Andy's been going to his whole life and he decided to take our insurance as full payment for both the cleanings and the cavities so that didn't cost us anything out of pocket.  We're feeling very blessed that we had been able to put as much into savings as we did before Isaac was born.  If we hadn't been trying to save every penny we would definitely be freaking out right now!

Even with all the craziness, we had an awesome Christmas!  My parents sent us a baby bath tub for Isaac, so bath time has been less awful the last week... aka... Isaac isn't screaming bloody murder when we try to give him a bath.  Instead he just looks vaguely worried.  We try to play with him a lot and get him to smile so he'll start to associate bath time with fun.  Andy's parents got us a Bumbo which I'm really excited about since hopefully this will help Isaac to be happier not being held and get him to start playing with things.  He's still a little young for it, but he sure looks cute sitting in it!  They also got us a spiffy new camera!  It takes HD quality video and has all sorts of nifty, parent friendly features (such as taking 10 shots per second so that one of them has a chance of looking okay).  I'm really excited about, especially it comes with a few lessons on how to take pictures!

New Years was... interesting.  I'm glad it'll be several years before we have a baby that young at a New Years Eve party again.  Isaac was less than thrilled about being kept up until midnight (I tried to put him to sleep, but he didn't like the idea of going to bed in a strange crib either) and being surrounded by lots of people.  We all survived though.

Here are some pictures of the little cutie... who happens to be 2 months old today!

Ready to go to the New Years Eve Party

You can tell that Isaac's had just about enough of this whole party thing.

  1. Your baby goes to bed before midnight? How did you manage that? Jackson doesn't go to bed until 2 (and that's if we're lucky)!

  2. I'm not going to lie, we've been really lucky. Every once in awhile Isaac will decide he wants to stay up until 1, but usually he goes to sleep by 11. What works for us is to try to keep him awake as much as possible after 7:00 and then at 10:00 we do everything we can to tell him it's time to sleep. We put him in a disposable diaper, we swaddle him up tight, we turn on the white noise machine, and then we just stay in his room and rock him/feed him until he goes to sleep. Hopefully that helps!
